Tell him that the pope is a head of-

You know what, I'm just going to keep my head out of this upcoming stuffstorm.

Is that the full conversation?

Just checking to make sure that he doesn't instead have a problem with abortion or euthanasia, rather than gay marriage. Wouldn't want you to have a go at him over a misunderstanding.

For the most part, I'd just leave his views as they are. It's probably not worth arguing over.
I've got friends who have very specific religious and cultural views which differ from mine. We happily avoid bringing them up, since we don't want to argue and fall out.
I'm happy to debate on the internet however, since I don't know any of you. And I'm sure most of you smell too.

It's not possible. I imagine he believes it's bad because of religion. Which ignores all logic and reason.

The Pope makes me sad to be Catholic.

I don't get this. If you disagree with many aspects of a religion, why are you still part of it?

Boy am I glad I'm not Catholic.
I hate the Pope.

no he thinks that gay marriage is "morally wrong" and how its not included in our "god given rights"

I meant baptized Catholic, I don't follow the faith at all.

tell him that he's a moron.

All Christians are extremists and it's up to the Pope to be King Extremist, of course.

Jokes aside, just let him wallow in his ignorance.

I was baptized Catholic, and haven't officially revoked my baptism. I don't identify as Catholic, though. Mostly because I don't believe in a god and disagree with many of their moral viewpoints.

Faith is faith, and there are many many parts of any religion.
Catholocism is exceedingly complex, like all major religions.
It's very likely that there are parts you absolutely agree on and disagree on.

If everyone left all religions whenever there was a single thing they didn't agree on, there would be no organised religions at all.

Not to mention, Pope's are elected and are individual people.
They have different personal opinions. You can't expect every catholic to have the same opinion on everything as each new and different Pope that comes along.
