I don't smoke and probably never will, due to a dislike for the taste and actual smoking (having tried a cigarette before), and also due to the harmful side-effects, having lost a grandparent to lung cancer due to smoking.
My mother still smokes however, my father used to, and both my grandparents did smoke.
Drinking however, I do kind of do.
I'm not of the legal age to purchase alcohol or drink it without a suitable adult or without a meal.
Most of my friends have been drinking for much longer, and being of similar ages (generally a little bit, 6 months, older), but I don't tend to go to parties, so have never felt the need to drink to excess.
I suppose I probably would if I went to parties, but I don't see that I would need to.
I drink, usually, with my family, casually. A glass of wine, or a bit of lager, or rum and lemonade.
I drink in those cases, because I enjoy the taste, and you do get a bit of a nice feeling. I've never drunk so much that I have become drunk.
Personally, I find a lot of drinks to be rather vile tasting. Rum and coke puts me off. Drinks like whisky or gin are also a bit strong for my taste.
I can only personally see the only reason I would put up with the taste is simply to get pissed, but that just seems like drinking for the sake of drinking and just dulling your senses.
I suppose really, I just don't have the social life to force me to drink. I probably will do when I go to University, but for the meantime, I don't get too much out of drinking, despite finding certain alcohols to be quite nice and a bit calming, when I'm relaxing with my family.
