Probably .png; it supports alpha, is pretty much lossless and isn't as space consuming as .tgas.
.jpg is my second favorite, as they normally have a low file size

^example of a bad .jpg, which pretty much exist only if you do so on purpose.

Cool part about svg is that it also supports mouseover events and such.

.tga because it sounds cool and is high quality

i think we can all agree that .tiff sucks

.png because of practical use and general compatibility

for programming, .bmp because i'm lazy

for looking really nice, .svg

.svg

Pretty sure it has the highest quality.
Do you realize this only works with images composed of mathmatical dimensions, such as text, shapes and maps but not photos?

I'm pretty sure .bmp is uncompressed. Good luck :)

yeah, but it's pretty easy to write/read compared to other formats lol

if i ever did a serious project i'd obviously do something different

You can just vector trace a bitmap perfectly. The only problem is that when you scale it the blending will screw up, but I think there is a way to make it scale like a raster image although that kind of takes away the point.

.jpeg because sweet bro and hella jeff

My Top list:

.TIF      (can support layers, high-resolution, high-pixel-density stuff)
.PNG      (Easy to use and high quality)
.BMP       (not bad)
.SVG        (VECTORSSSSSSS)
.GIF          (You need a good program to make animated GIF high-quality, then it's still washed-out)
.JPG           (uses too limited, i.e. just photography)

Anything I forgot?
