Author Topic: Why don't we have movable bricks?  (Read 702 times)

This is what I mean by movable bricks, why don't we have something so simple like this that works with any bricks or maybe just a set of them? We had them on an older version of Blockland, this version should have it also. (This also has a GUI with it when you wrench on the bricks)

List of useful things with this
  • Secret Entrance
  • Single/Double Door(s)
  • Elevators (Not only up and down but sideways like in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory)
  • Platforms (Good for obstacles)
  • Spin things (Spinning bricks showcasing an item or something)
  • Movies/Videos - Trains, Cars, etc,

I will add to the list

There is an event that does this. It moves them along the grid though, but it will move selected bricks to a set destination.

It is buggy and old and not very good though. I have it but I think it was failed.

The engine is optimized to work with static bricks. The way that bricks are dealt with by the engine does not allow for any kind of motion. The best we can get is using a psuedo-brick to simulate motion (fakekill)

Currently impossible, and I expect it will stay that way

I don't understand though, how was this able to be done in an older version of the game which used an older engine and not on the engine we have now? I remember someone saying that if they made the bricks go from static to dynamic or something it would work could we do that or is that just silly/not good?

Bricks were magnitudes of 10^3 or 4 times more laggy, simply because they were dynamic and therefore more resource intensive. Please, stop with all these topics. Whenever I see a "why can't the engine do this?" or "we need a better engine" post, 80% of the time it's you

not really

just gotta execute it properly

Now you're just stuffting words in my mouth, I never asked for a better engine in this topic, I only asked why the engine couldn't do this because you brought it up first, look in the OP, nowhere did I talk about the game engine and I didn't modify the OP either. I haven't talked/asked about changing the engine for months, most likely since the announcement of V21 (Feb 5 2012) and possibly earlier than that. This when I start getting mad, I NEVER complain about posts you make, just answer my question and leave.

Thanks.

I'm pretty sure it can't work with this engine. This would be really interesting and useful to have, though.

it could theoretically work, it'd just be laggy as stuff like roblox's fully dynamic bricks
not to mention the ass ton of work it'd be just to get them to stay in place

nah, you just would have a limit of a couple hundred and have predefined shapes and it'd be fine.

the real tricky part is getting players to stay on it

the way he's asking for, it might as well be

I gave you a very clear answer to your question. Also, I'm only counting topics that I made a mental note to wonder who had posted it. I didn't say you've been doing it recently, just that you've done it a lot

the way he's asking for, it might as well be
well considering he's basically talking about v0002 moving bricks, it's totally possible

p sure it'd be failbinned though
