Author Topic: {HELP!} How do I get games to run fast on Ubuntu Linux?  (Read 925 times)

I just installed Ubuntu Linux on a Toshiba Satellite L455.

What Happened

I came up with a RAZOR fast operating system, at least it seemed that way.

The first time I downloaded a game, and ran it, the results weren't so successful.

My computer started to burn up. and it didn't look good.

I installed the Wine emulator, and I got the same reaction, I am now VERY sad because of this situation.

Specs

4gig laptop with intel i5 processor

unknown graphics card

One more thing

I didn't know which version I installed. I'm guessing the 32 bit. but this computer is 64 bit.

ANY TYPES OF SUPPORT ARE APPRECIATED!

did you enable any Additional Drivers

open the Launcher, open "Software Sources", look at the "Additional Drivers" tab

Didn't find any. A couple seconds ago it just spammed internal errors onto my screen. Some strange results I found was that my computer specs were actually 32 bit, with 3000 megabytes, instead of 4 gigs.

"Ubuntu Linux"

Well there's your problem.

wtf are you talking about

Linux isn't made for games. It's made for people who can't afford a decent operating system.

Hell, even Apple OS's are better than Linux.

Because Macs have SOME support for programs.

Linux isn't made for games.

Linux is a kernel, so obviously not
silly fact-fighting arguments aside

that doesn't change the fact that there's 131 (and counting, fast) games with GNU/Linux support on Steam
and that Steam itself supports it natively

It's made for people who can't afford a decent operating system.

point out an operating system which costs money and is better than GNU/Linux

Actually, It was pointed out a while ago that linux based systems handle gaming almost 10 times better than windows or mac (LOLOLOL MAC GAMING, HAHAHAHAHHAHAHA)

Its just developers don't like linux.

Does that mean that I should crack windows again, or possibly install it onto a dvd and boot from there, or should I install Mac OS X using iAtkos?

Let me tell you a story.

I purchased a computer from a friend of mine. Really good quality for gaming.

Unfortunately, it had no operating system.

So, not having much money at the time, I used Linux.

Tried playing games.

Performance was inadequate. To the point of unplayability.

I tried several games and several different versions of Linux.

It was all crap.

So I saved some money and purchased Windows Vista Ultimate.

And now I have no problems.

Linux isn't as user friendly and automatic as windows, sounds like a problem with you refusing to educate yourself on it.

Did you install the latest drivers for your GPU?
Were you running the games under WINE? You can't get 100% performance in WINE.
