I'm going for a degree in computer science if that gives me more expertise in reading articles, understanding charts, and watching videos. Because that's all you need to know how to build a decent computer.

Some prebuilts are cheeper than custom built. This is because the companies get bulk deals on hardware and are able to still make a nice profit, even selling at less than the combined hardware cost.
