Author Topic: You know how some free programs include 'extras' in the install you don't want?  (Read 1798 times)

They've taken it to the next loving level:

I was too busy laughing my ass off to be annoyed though.

uhm you do realize you could just uncheck it?

But he's uninstalling one piece of trash and it offers him another.

uhm you do realize you could just uncheck it?
it's the fact that it's already checked

i've accidently downloaded many stuffty toolbars years ago because of this

I could have unchecked 'lucky savings' in the first place, but you never loving expect them, just clicking though the installer as fast as possible.

It's your own stupid fault if you do this.

exactly

when i download an installer i actually skim over what it's telling me, such as usage instructions, what extras it wants to download

Yeah, yeah, but these things are bullstuff.
And yeah, I get that they need to make their loving money.
Doesn't mean it's not annoying as stuff how they do it.

Some program I downloaded a couple years ago had one of these on it, and I didn't see it when installing.

It installed AskJeeves on my computer, and since then I've had it stuck on my computer.
It acts as my default search engine (although it's terrible), and used to sporadically change my home page to Ask.com
Luckily it seems to have stopped being so annoying, and I can generally ignore it being there since it doesn't come up much.

But when I previously tried to uninstall it, from my browsers and computer, it wouldn't let me uninstall due to random programs using it, or needing permissions (despite my user profile being the only one, and being administrator).
I could probably delete it now, but I can't be bothered too. Has been a pain in the arse before though.

Like I said, above I get that.
But seeing as +90% of people who get the main software don't even install it, and probably 99% of the rest uninstall it almost immedently, I don't see how much money it could really be making. Even if you do install it, and leave it on, are you really gonna click a signifigant amount of ads it shows, if any?

They make money for having it bundled. Think of it as advertising.
