Author Topic: What's the point of blocking Youtube videos on mobile devices?  (Read 3186 times)

I don't get it.

I get so loving pissed when I'm on my phone and watch a good video, only to find out mobile users aren't allowed to watch it becausw it contains a snippet from some song nobody cares about. It even tells you to add the video to a playlist so you can view it on a computer later.

I can think of no logical reason for this.

If you're using a using an Android phone, you can watch it in desktop mode because Android supports flash.
I always do this anyway.

>Tap Side Bar
>Scroll All the way down
>Tap desktop
>Tap video
>Video opens
>???????
>Profit

And an apple device.

But why?
Because Apple is a bitch that smells like a dirty touchscreen that all your friends have used.

They want you to use their mobile app if you want to view YouTube. You could assume this is because they made an app specialized for YouTube, but then people still just use their mobile browser. Since a mobile browser can never be 100% fine with a Desktop version of a site, whether it be bug or simply not fitting, they also have to manage a mobile version of the website. Forcing you to use their app makes it easier on them, while also allowing them to force advertisements and such.

It's a lot of different things, both logical and assholic. Of course as they mentioned, Desktop Mode should bypass this as trickery. And making your videos not viewable on mobile browsers is actually a setting which video uploaders can choose not to obey, but then they get certain penalties in terms of their own monetizing and such... So many things.

I'm on an Android.

There was a thread about this a few weeks ago, i'm sure it mentioned something about mobile viewers not seeing advertisements of some kind.

I don't know what kind of friend you are if you only wash once.

And not all mobiles are touchscreen :l

Agree with this thread so much.

this is why.

You can't really do advertisements on mobile, so people block it so they will make more money

It is because Ad revenue is not as good
Mobile devices generate much less money per view than on a desktop, since they can generally smish in more advertisements onto the screen and such.
The mobile device blocker is for snobby people who want to make sure they maximize their income on youtube
