Author Topic: Why aren't tilde's (~) allowed in regular chat?  (Read 1573 times)

I know it sounds like a dumb question, but I'm curious. It's not like it would do any harm, so why wouldn't we be allowed to use it in regular chat?

Because when you try to type them they open the console.

idk

but you can't copy+paste them either which is ??

I don't think you can type in anything that's not english & alpha-numeric

Not true. The ~ character is not only allowed in chat (when copied), but can also appear normally in chat on both the server's end and the client's end, not to mention that it can be echoed to the console. However, for reasons unknowable now or ever, either Badspot or the Torque devs decided to make the tilde be filtered out by the default chat. (I don't know who made the chat function, so I'm gonna go with Badspot.)

Yes, all of this is correct, thank you xalos.

My question is about that last part, why it's filtered by the default chat. Why? There doesn't seem to be any immediate logical explanation.

My guess is there's probably a standard filter that only lets alphanumeric characters pass through.

Neither is |, <, >, ¡ (upside down exclamation point), ¿, «, or », and we can use all of those too.

I was making an example
¿
What the hell is that

Spanish pre-sentence question mark, for example:
¿Qué pasa?

Slayer does not filter it and it works fine, so I don't see a reason for it.

then just other key would have to open the console..?
