SAVE THE FILE ABOVE FIRST BEFORE RESETTING YOUR ROUTER

he feels guilty about doing this without permission and is worried he'll be busted cuz his parents are watching tv

If you need more detailed instructions, just Google it.

And yeah, save the file like he said.

Here is my router, just to see what it is.

Its a xfinity tg862.

What would I need to do after resetting it?

okay here's what you need to write down

SSID
password
encryption scheme (either WEP or WPA)

you need to get all these right, or else your other devices will not automatically reconnect.
What would I need to do after resetting it?
set all the crap i just listed back to the pre-reset state

do you have a smartphone or other device that can access the internet separate from your computer?
that will be a major help if you forget up

Do I need to port forward?

Once you reset it, we cannot help you and you will be offline until you get your router set up with the proper settings. (SSID, encryption key, and encryption type) Write them down so that you can set them once you reset it.

Ignore the port forwarding for now.

Wait, I just realized that you have some computers plugged into the router with ethernet cables. Use one of those while resetting it so that you can still access the internet.
