i use it to pester my friends and tell them to get their ass on skype
or as an alternative to skype when i can't get any signal

I didn't get a smartphone until I was 14, but I had a phone before.

On-topic: I almost never get a text. If my friends and I want to talk, we talk on the phone. Later/Early on in the day, we do text each other to see if the other is sleep/busy.

I couldn't agree more with you, I just call my friends or E-mail them, never needed to text. I rather hear the persons voice.
