Author Topic: Should I get any sort of Ubuntu? (Ubuntu, Kubuntu, so on) Or just keep Windows 8  (Read 1490 times)

So I was gonna get Ubuntu, but I heard that the Unity sidebarish - thing is really crappy, and I had Xubuntu on this computer before I got win8. Not to mention since alot of stuff is for windows, so generally i'll have a quite clean one. And if you're wondering what my desktop looks like:

My monitor isn't really that small, it's actually quite big, but I just used the Ctrl V image thing on imgur.
So that's all done, the question is: Should I get an other version of Ubuntu or just get Ubuntu 12.10?

Kubuntu, Xubuntu? I've never heard of any of those, assuming they are modifications for Ubuntu.
And honestly, I wouldn't complicate anything, I would stick with Windows 8.

igloos did you just quote the entire op

anyway

Well maybe using WINE i could just play the games?
If baddy released a linux application for Blockland, it would save a bunch more time.

Wine is really confusing to set up and doesn't work good with all games
dual boot is the best option imo, ive had no problems with dual boot ever

Yeah, I think I might just use Xubuntu, besides it also has a nice design.
But i'll think about it. @titanium Well I did run quite a few games with WINE, that and some of my friends use linux, Like I said i'll think about it.

Honestly, that depends on what games he's playing. If he's just playing stuff like Blockland, WINE can run that fine.

Are you using Ubuntu or any other type? and if so, tell me what type.

If you want, you can use XUbuntu. It uses XFCE which is nicer and more lightweight than Unity.

I have Linux Mint on a laptop. I personally prefer Mint over Ubuntu and its variants but that's just me.

Call me unhuman, but I just don't like the look of mint. It just looks too bland.
@steve
Yeah, since i've been Xubuntu for I don't even know i'll probably just go with that.

It's worth it, I love everything about Ubuntu and I'm never going back

Mint has like three different versions with different desktop environments. Cinnamon (I think it's called, haven't used it), MATE, and probably Unity.
You can download a desktop environment whenever you want. sudo apt-get install kde xcfe4 cinnamon unity, whatever

I'd get XUbuntu.

Does that "sudo" whatever the hell that means magic need an internet connection or what?
