Author Topic: Why install Linux with windows?  (Read 2049 times)

This may sound stupid, but what is the point of installing Linux with windows? I'm a gamer and I don't see anything "worthwhile" in Linux.

It has a pretty font.

Off-topic: Oh that is so pretty! I'll download it just for that.

On-topic: What are some real reasons.

When was the last time you seen a virus on linux? Yeah, hardly ever.
Not trying to be dismissive, but use Ubuntu if you want to use linux.

Why should I use Ubuntu instead of another type?

Ubuntu is the easiest way of using Linux.

Ah ok. What are the perks of having linux?

I use Linux because it's a great development environment among other things. After you spend hundreds of hours customizing it you don't really want to leave. I also don't really play any games (though I do have a Windows box for when I want to) so it's not much of a problem.

some might like the fact that linux ends with an x and windows doesn't

I'm not too sure. Even Macintosh is better than it.

Dotdot is right. It's fun to customize and once you start you never stop.
And even if you come a computer master, you can create your own distro.

ok! I guess I'll install it and see how it works for me. Is there any way to uninstall it?

install a distro to a flash drive, then boot from the flash drive

In my opinion Ubuntu sucks. It's goal is to be a Windows replacement for the common people. By trying to do that it becomes to bloated and really negates Linux's advantage of being streamlined and lightweight.

How do I install it to a flashdrive? Is that on their website?

Every time I try to use ubuntu it somehow completely destroys my computer and I have to reformat and re-install windows. Like a week ago I decided to try the newest ubuntu and I would install it and it would work perfectly but after the first restart it would freeze at loading screen. I reinstalled like 4 times and same thing happened every time it would work fine and then restart and it would freeze. The other times it would work for a day or 2 and suddenly wouldn't start at all.
