I was thinking because a missile would move so much more quickly than a plane or drone.

Not to downplay the topic, but this is pretty old tech.

I still think we should use Vulcans and SAMs. A laser alone isn't going to stop multiple jets, missiles, and ballistics coming it's way.

Multiple lasers would. Especially when they get more advanced.
