Author Topic: I forgeted up hard on my first time driving.  (Read 4361 times)

Jesus Christ, im like freaking out.

So I just got out of driver's ed and I got my permit the same day. It's about 8:30 at night and were close to a busy road. I have never driven a car before this, I thought it was not that hard. So my dad picks me up, I ask if he can help me drive tomorrow. He says I should try right then and there. I get in the driver's seat, he tells me some basics. Easy. Not for me. I put it in drive, I didnt think the car would start moving, so I gently put on the brake. He then tells me to drive to the end of this empty street, I start off by attempting to press the gas easy, but accidently push a bit too much, so I do it again, and manage to pull it off simple. He tells me to turn around, I struggle, stop a few times, but I get it down. Here's where I stuff myself. He tells me to take a left on the next street, which leads to the busiest street in town. Im just like "Alright, gotta take it easy." He tells me to take a left, so I do, kind of. I manage to make it into the lane, things are smooth, slow down at a stoplight, pull forward a bit because I stopped too soon. This next turn is super sharp, so I attempt to turn, overturn it, and drive up on a curb, my dads yelling at me, tells me to get in the passenger seat, and I just feel like stuff. He drives me home asking me why I drove up on the curb, I tell him I had no experience, he starts telling me about how he was able to drive so easily his first time.

Now Im home, freaking out because I have a drive for drivers ed day after tomorrow, my dads mad, and I feel like im gonna throw up.

Anyone got any tips on how to drive better or how I can calm down about driving, because it scares me stuffless now...

That's not good... the baptism by fire approach doesn't work for everyone. Next time get your basics down in a parking lot :) Don't worry, nearly everyone learns to drive, you'll be good once you get some practice under your belt.

I first started in a parking lot aswell. I was also racing full sized stock cars at 14 so the experience always helps.

I was able to drive stickshift without any teachings first try.
I guess some people are naturally good drivers, sorry. All you did was drive up a curb so I'm sure he'll calm down soon.

it's his fault for throwing you in the deep end like that

Turn on the radio for your favorite song?

i get paid to drive a variety of nice cars around all day lol
it's pretty sweet

Turn on the radio for your favorite song?

yeah because his favorite song is on 24/7

You did better than my brother did on his first time, he managed to stall the car in the middle of the road :D

My dad said tomorrow he will take me to a parking lot, my first drive will be over basic starts and stops along with basic turns, and anything else you do when starting up a car

Right now I just need to calm down...

I drove our car into some train tracks and got the car stuck during drivers ed

Calm down. Your dad is overreacting. Everyone makes mistakes.

My first drive was with my dad down some really simple back roads, but Jesus Christ a stoplight and busy street on the first drive? Don't worry, driving isn't that scary after even just a couple drives.

Don't worry about being yelled at. Teaching a kid to drive is probably the most terrifying thing the average parent does. I'm glad your dad's figured out that you're not ready for intense situations, but just remember, in a few weeks with consistent practice, you'll be driving on that street with ease.
