I never said I wouldn't add it because it's realistic. I only said I wouldn't add it cause it's in every other FPS game.
So you're planning on making an online FPS with realistic graphics and don't want it to look like every other FPS ever? Good luck. I highly doubt you will succeed. If you want to break the mold you need to stylized graphics or rely on unconventional gameplay mechanics.
Edit: The thing is shooters in a modern setting have been done over and over again. There are dozens of games like that. If you're just planning on making something that resembles Counter-Strike nobody is going to care. We already have a Counter-Strike and it has a huge player base. There's no need for another one. If you want to stand out from the crowd you need to do something different.
You could stylize the visuals but then you're competing with Team Fortress 2 and Loadout. Both are quite popular games. In my opinion stylizing the graphics is the "easy way" out since you can do a whole lot of crazy stuff with it. With realistic graphics you are quite limited to the usual gray and brown industrial theme. Unless of course you get clever and do something like what Mirror's Edge did.
Modern industrial setting is in my opinion overdone. There are most likely dozens of games where you player in a warehouse as police vs terrorists. It's been done and it has been done well. You are most likely never going to top that. If you ask me there's no point in spending months to create a game that already exists and is most likely better than what you've done. Why not do something different? Funny? Crazy? Neighbours fighting in suburbs? Pirates versus clowns? Aliens invading? You could also set the game in the future. Or do something steampunky. There's no need to stick with modern weapons either.
Gameplay wise you need something different. If it's just team deathmatches and gun games you're making a Counter-Strike clone. You need to think outside the box and do something new (or something that hasn't been done in a while) to get people interested in your game. Game modes are one thing but you also need to think about the mechanics.
The point of this disorderly rant is that modern shooters are boring and Counter-Strike has been done. You need to make the game interesting if you want people to play it. 20 people playing once in a while does not a game make.
