I've seen roughly 90-100 on the 2011-2012 New Years server party, it was awesome and very laggy.

I always thought the maximum amount of players in a server you could have was 99 or 100.

150 players. Wasn't laggy at all internet wise, though my graphics didn't like it. I was running shaders though at that point.
