Author Topic: My laptop keeps going to sleep  (Read 1100 times)

So, I noticed this happen about 3-4 hours ago when I was playing blockland, and I thought I may have a virus, and decided to scan it, and nothing turns up.

And for 4 hours, it didn't happen, until now, it turned off, and when I turn it back on, it turns off in a few seconds.
Could it be a virus, and my anti-virus scanner didn't pick it up, or could it be something else, and if so, how could I fix it?
I also noticed, it only happens when I use my monitor that I hook it up to.

it could be something inside the computer monitor, the capacitor. this happens with my monitor too, i have to keep turning it off and on for like 10 minutes before it stays on. then, if i turn off the monitor, or it's not receiving a connection from my computer for like 10 minutes or something, it does it again, just it takes longer if it's off for a longer time.

i'm not a professional, but i read something like this online and i think it may be the problem.

My sisters laptop goes to sleep if I play certain games to long, perhaps its getting to hot?

My monitor is fine, it stays on, but the computer completely goes to sleep.

Sounds like when my cheap-ass laptop started overheating and shutting off in a panic every time I tried to do anything more strenuous than word-processing.

well, i know laptops have heating issues a lot, so maybe it is something such as what alex said, since i believe computers usually do something like go to sleep when they overheat. right now i am just guessing, since from what you first described, it certainly sounded like the problem i have.

Well, I play blockland on it all the time, and it never did this before.

Also I feel it to see if it is overheating, and it feels cool like always.

Get your laptop a nice pillow and a warm blanket. Maybe a warm glass of milk or whatever people do to get them to fall asleep

Ensure it's not overheating by running HWMonitor (by CPUID if it helps) in the backround. I'm pretty sure anything above 72ºC is the danger zone.

The highest Dell Inc. 0G8TPV gotten was 73 C

Intel Core i3 2370M
Core 0 was 74c
Core 2 was 71c
Package was 74c

The hard drive high was 33c

Guess it probably was over heating, But I played it longer then I did while I was testing it, and never had it happen before

It's sleepy. Let it sleep!
Lol maybe the battery is getting older if its a laptop

It was charging when I used it, and I got it less then two months ago.

defective battery...?
Look at power options or whatever it's called
Then change some blobbing settings about sleep mode or whatever
Maybe would fix the plop.

Done checked that, also the battery health status is healthy.

I think I know the problem, I normally use my 4GB and 8GB flash drives with readyboost, and I didnt have them, right now with them, the temps are staying below 60c.

Put it to recharge and let the laptop cool down.
