Author Topic: Whats the correct boot sequence to load from a USB flash drive?  (Read 996 times)

I am downgrading to windows 7 from windows 8 but still have a problem, I can't figure out the boot sequence that allows you to boot from a usb flash drive.
Anyone know?

When the computer's booting it should say something like "Press F12 now to open bios settings" (off the top of my head).
Do that.

I know how to get into the BIOS, I need to change the boot sequence to where it boots from my usb without it loving up.

Heres what it has right now
Top is first
bottom is last
HDD
Boot Agent
Flash drive
CD/DVD drive

Some motherboard manufacturers allow you to boot from a device without going into the BIOS and changing the sequence by striking a key and selecting a device.
It'll say something like "Press F# for a list of boot devices" or something

It does allow me to hit delete and go to a boot menu and select my flash drive to boot from there, but its annoying manually doing it in the installation process of windows 7.

At least you won't have to spend a minute and a half configuring your boot sequences then go back and reset them.

When im installing windows 7 though, do I boot from the flash drive every time it restarts?

If it's not finished, sure.

did you get your usb flash drive from any sort of collectors edition for anything that isn't related to memory?

What do you mean, its a Lexar 8GB flash drive.

Also forgot to add, I'm installing windows off of the flash drive.

Install the ISO to the Flash Drive via a program. I prefer this one. (Windows is lower on the menu)
Stick USB flash drive into USB port.
Reboot.
When the BIOs menu shows up press the button that lets you choose what to boot too. (This is before ANYTHING that says Windows)

Select the flash drive and you're done, run through the installer, your computer will reboot near the end of the installer, DO NOT SELECT THE FLASH DRIVE JUST BOOT TO THE HARD DRIVE!

You should be done.
