This happens to me allot with chrome (about once a week or so), I don't know why though, but it shouldn't be anything to serious but a setting disabled or something.

The same seems to happen on my phone w/chrome, any ideas on what could be the cause?

I feel like it automatically deletes cookies once and a while so google keeps up its image of the fastest browsers

Clear out cookies and re-login
Instead of clicking the box to stay logged in forever, try some absurd number for minutes to stay logged in.
