Author Topic: Has anyone here bought an Arctic Spyder III laser?  (Read 2895 times)

Go to an airport.

You know what I mean.

I only have a small idea of what you're referring to.

Elaborate.

powerful enough to see from space? dauym.

$210 out of $375 collected.

Hoping to order it Saturday next week. I also promise to post pretty pictures of it after I get it.

Couldn't you like purchase whatever is in the laser (or even more powerful stuff) and put it in a $1 alu tube so you don't pay for the brand?

There are plenty of cheaper blue lasers, the biggest issue with them though is that they have a pretty short duty cycle (they overheat within minutes). The Arctic can run continuously without ever overheating.

Probably because it has good cooling through the steel (or whatever) tube around it

Other that the ridiculous time that It took to get here, I say that the quality of the laser is really good and holy stuff is that green 532nm bright. Can't even imagine what the power of the Artic Spyder is...
nm is the wavelength, which will tell you what shade of blue it is not how bright it is. This is not that spectacular of a laser and is certainly overpriced. You can get other 5mW lasers on amazon for about $11.

Excuse me I was looking at a different model.

Al Lumin Um

Just wondering what you would need this for. I mean it's a cool neat gadget but does it have any uses other than to forget with people?

No

Distress signal/beacon (it has a mode for doing SOS in morse code)
Coolest lighter (never have issues with lighting campfires)
Soldering
Reusable wasp killer
Weapon
Being awesome

Soldering
most solder has about a 450°F melting point. I don't think you will accomplish this.

You can with a focus lens. (which I'm getting with the extended lens kit)

Ooh, I would have fun killing flies with this.
But I'm not willing to pay $300 for something I'd use so infrequently, unless it were less dangerous.

I think it's cute you came up with a list of things that you will never do or use the laser for (minus the wasp killer). I mean it's obvious any kid who orders this and isn't using this for a science experiment is just planning on burning things with it.

Also the funniest thing on that list has to be soldering. PS You'll shoot your eye out kid

Gee, thanks for the warning, mom.

I think it's pretty obvious you're not supposed to shine god damn lasers into your eye.
