Characters biography/back-story:
Cameron Sykes was born on July 20th, 1978 in Sterling, Alaska. He had an older sister (8 at the time) whom he was fond of since his mother’s job as a corporate manager meant that she had to travel to New York frequently, and his father was always out hunting. At the age of five, he was taken on multiple hunting trips by his father, where he learned many skills that would allow him to go hunt on his own. His first trip to a doctor gave him the ambition to become a surgeon, so he stayed in school and did the best he could, while making time for hunting over the weekends. The day of his high school graduation was tragic; his sister was heavily injured on her way to the graduation ceremony, and she died before an ambulance could get to the scene. This incident would drive Cameron to complete 8 years of college and medical school in New York, however these years would pass by miserably for him.
After graduating from Medical school in 2004, he obtained his license and began his residency at Bellevue Hospital Center, and during his residency he met a few people. He finally took a job as a general surgeon in Bellevue after completing his residency in 2008. Cameron lived in Manhattan by himself for 4 years before he bumped into a lawyer by accident on his way to work in early 2012. He and the lawyer made arrangements for coffee the next morning; this unexpected accident would become a well-secured friendship. After the introduction of the genementer in late 2012, large volumes of cases of horrific injuries usually inflicted by others were starting to flood the hospital, so he was usually overworked. The month of December 2012 was defined by horrifying injuries that were so bad that he could not treat them. He would stay up for two, even three days at a time on a shift, but even the overtime pay wasn’t worth witnessing people hopelessly dying in the emergency room and loads of bodies being carted out.
Relief came with the government ban on the genementer, and the frequency of these hopeless hospital cases eventually decreased to the point where most patients could be treated, and there were fewer patients to treat as well. This would not last long due to the protests, even though Cameron was a strong advocate for the ban. Because Cameron did not take any vacation days off since he started his residency, Cameron’s supervisor told him to take a month off or two to recuperate in late October. Cameron encountered his mother in Manhattan, who told him that his father wanted to see him again. He decided to make the trip to Alaska by car in late October, so that he would have time to reflect upon the death of his sister and why he went to New York. By the time the infection started to escalate throughout the world, Cameron was near the outskirts of Greenwood, but he had not heard about the infection yet. He came across a figure with a strange walking stance, so he got an old handgun out of the glove compartment that he kept as a memento of his childhood and loaded it with a new magazine. Cameron hoped that he would not have to use the weapon- he has already seen enough dead bodies to last a war. He got out of the car while leaving the headlights on so he could see the figure. As it walked into the light of the car’s headlights, Cameron was shocked by the appearance of the ‘person’, since they looked like they were dead. He told the approaching zombie to back off, but it kept walking towards him. It wasn’t before the zombie tried to bite him that he shot it with his pistol. From that point on Cameron was focused on surviving, he came across a few small groups of survivors, but remained on his guard. He survived by creating elaborate traps and hunting animals for food and furs. The apocalypse pushed him to learn more skills that were vital and supplemented the knowledge his father had gave him. Cameron managed to hold out in the outskirts until venturing further into the county, where he discovers the bandit camp.
