Author Topic: What is going on with my computer?  (Read 923 times)

Lately my computer has been having blue screens, multiple programs fail to open no matter how many times I re-install, (Paint.net and Nexus mod manager being some) a lot of HP applications crash (HP Ceement and HP support being some) my computer freezes and crashes, System restore only helps for a few days before it happens again, it takes a few tries to boot up some applications or take and extremely long time to boot up and AVG can't find anything wrong. This has being happening for about a month, is my computer dying?

Get PCMatic!
I was intending to ask this, does it actually work?

Oh God. Probably not. That was just a joke.

normally when this stuff starts to happen to me i just reinstall windows no questions asked.

Probably  :cookieMonster:
Since AVG isn't finding anything wrong, it might be a hardware problem. You could always run a system maintenance scan and see if it picks up anything. Also I suggest removing crapware. When did this problem start occurring? Did you build your PC yourself or is it store bought, and does it come with a warranty?

While that isn't a terrible idea, it doesn't answer how it started so he knows what to not do so it doesn't happen again.

It's a store bought HP Pavilion Dv7, running windows 7 and Intel Core i5 with ATI Mobility Radeon Premium graphics. I've had this computer for a few years so if there is a warranty it's most likely expired. I got it for christmas

Also it started happening about a month ago, I can't recall exactly what I was doing at the time sadly. I usually don't install random junk though.

Then formatting and reinstalling windows 7 is not a possibility. Correct me if im wrong but usually store bought computers do not come with an OS cd. Also, I know you've probably had this answer thrown at your face before, be sure that you have all of your drivers updated. Windows update with optional updates is your best friend. What is your cpu/disk usages when your computer is idle?

they don't come with OS cds anymore they come with the newborn bullstuff called recovery partitions.
use that to reinstall windows 7.

upload all the files in C:\Windows\Minidump (preferably inside a zip)

Oh! My old PC had that, quite a neat feature. The only downside in my opinion is if the hard drive goes bad, you are out both a hard drive and an OS.

I'm pretty sure if you have a valid (and genuine) Windows key you can download a disk image from Microsoft.

I wouldn't know where to find that other in computer properties? And if that is the only place, if the hard drive goes bad you would have no way of finding out the key? Unless the key is on a sticker on the hard drive.
