Author Topic: RTB not working?  (Read 2802 times)

It's not a potential solution.

Well for one that's totally useless with regard to user behavior because people aren't signing in and out constantly. The typical user journey (and this applies to 99% of users) consists of connecting, authenticating, playing for a while then quitting. The cache hit ratio would be like 1%. This isn't an issue stemming from a handful of users disconnecting and reconnecting repeatedly.

As it stands the service makes about 0.2 requests per second to the auth server at peak usage on average. Your "solution" would maybe reduce that by 0.001. You're still going to get a single digit cache hit ratio with even a 24 hour cache lifetime.

I have no idea what causes your problems so it's only a possible solution, which you seem to think has no chance at all. You disregard every solution as invalid.

Even if it doesn't help with this problem, it would still keep parts of the service floating in case of master server issues. Try not to be prejudicial. People have issues with you because you never consider what people have to say.

well rtb is awesome to use and all. but if it was down for a day or 2, the community can live just fine without.

its not like... if the blockland master server was down for a few days. then there would be riots in the streets.

Thanks for disregarding a potential solution because it only benefits you 99% of the time that it does for everyone else.
How is it a solution?
The solution is that badspot fixes the auth server

Well, no one actually knows the problem.

do all requests HAVE to use the bl master server?
cant a lot of it be user-to-rtb
(this is me also not knowing what was/is being sent to and from rtb as is)

RTB confirms that you're a real Blockland user.

If the master server is down, RTB will not let you into the chat. Many people will try to restart Blockland and then lose information about what's going on. A situation like that can be avoided by caching successful authentication results -- something Ephialtes thinks is not a solution to anything at all. Useability and disaster endurance have never been Ephialtes' top concerns.

You really don't know any of the details about the backend of the RTB system so I don't think you're in a place to comment.

It's never worked for me, but I doubt this will ever change for myself.
I think the servers might be down.

What did I get wrong?

If the auth server is actually down then RTB will be pretty useless so what's the point

You know if you spent as much time doing something constructive as you do rubbing your rage boner for me, you might actually have something almost impressive to show for the X many years you've plagued this community lol. Absolutely pathetic as usual.

I have better things to spend my time on than trying to work around a webserver that can't handle 0.2 requests per second. As Bisjac says, I'm not running a hospital or a nuclear power plant - people can live without RTB.

The only concern I have when RTB is down is that it's hard for me to get in contact with other players and knowing whether someone is online or not.

Yeah....

Well, time to go back to IRC again!
