I have only recently found a new feature/change/whatever:

The avatar format has been changed, maybe due to Badspot updating the SMF software.
Not really that big of a deal, but might be useful for those people that like to block avatars etc.

old format was http://forum.blockland.us/index.php?action=dlattach;attach=[attachment number];type=avatar

new is http://forum.blockland.us/avatarUpload/avatar_[profile number].[something like png, gif or jpg]

For example, Badspot's is http://forum.blockland.us/avatarUpload/avatar_2.gif
and mine is http://forum.blockland.us/avatarUpload/avatar_29015.png

EDIT: If you don't see your new avatar once you update it, empty your cache. This is a side effect with images like these because web browsers store images/pages to help make the page load faster.
You didn't see it before avatars were updated because SMF stored avatars like an attachment, and when you decided to update it, the URL for the avatar would get changed and then the old avatar gets deleted from the server.
