Author Topic: Pokemon help?  (Read 1334 times)

Hey, I was trying to get my Pokemon heart gold and diamond to connect to my Internet, but whenever I put in the password, it says "invalid" even though it is the correct password and I have checked before.

What do I do?

(Note, I am using my DSi)

There are a plethora of things that could be affecting your connection, so it's hard to pinpoint the true cause based on what little information you provided. Make sure your wireless settings are all correct, including the security type. Are you sure you're putting in the WEP/WPA/etc. key in instead of the router password? Are you getting an error code? I doubt the only prompt you're getting is "Invalid", so what is the full message?

Sorry for the lack of info

"These settings are invalid. Confirm information and try again. For help, visit www.nintendowifi.com"

What is the security type on your router?

Try switching it to WEP if at all possible and try to connect then. DS models before the 3DS had problems with WPA.

I tried, there is no option under WEP. :(

Your router has no WEP option at all?

The options are:

  • Shared
  • WPA2-Personal
  • WPA-Personal
  • WPA2-Enterprise
  • WPA-Enterprise
  • 802.1X

Try Shared. If my suspicion is right, that's WEP (generally routers have options for WEP-Open and WEP-Shared). If not, it's worth a try anyway.

Ok...it was..

Now the password won't work!

What do you mean it "won't work"? On the router? On the DS? Any error messages?

Any error messages?

When I type in the pass on the computer, it says "Error, the network key you entered is invalid. Type the key again, using 5 - 13 characters"

The password for WPA won't work for WEP, I think.

This was always the problem with the Nintendo DS's use of WEP.
It's outdated (and was when the DS was released) and isn't as secure as WPA. But they never upgraded until the 3DS.
And even then you need to be using a WEP connection I think for most DS games.

If you're using 5 - 13 characters like it says then I don't know what the deal is.
