Search feature randomly went away

So I was searching for something on the forums a few minutes ago. I entered what I wanted to search in the search bar, and pressed enter. Then a page coming up saying this feature doesn't exist or some kind of message like that. I returned to the homepage to find this:

The button is completely gone and I can't get it back. Can someone help me out?

Theres been some problems lately with the forums, Badspot has said hes removed the button because its been making the forums slow. We dont know if this is permanent though.

It's been there forever. I don't see why it would make the forums slow. Plus they haven't even been slow for me. Odd.
