but yes, the search button is gone for a bit, after the whole few day long maintenance thing it was missing for some people so he probably had to fix it for everyone. It'll be fine.

I disabled it because it slows the forum down to a crawl.  I have tried tons of things with the database but I just can't get it to work reliably.  There are other search solutions like sphinx that I might look into but I can't put anymore effort into this right now.

If you need to find something, google will usually get you there.  The forum is well indexed.
