Author Topic: Need help connecting white VGA cable to my PC.  (Read 1031 times)

I have 3 to be seeming VGA ports on my PC back, 2 that have extensions you need to have, then one Blue looking one a little above that you dont need a extension for, the problem is I connect the VGA to that one, turn my TV on, and nothing happens, windows isn't detecting it.

Disconnect the monitor that your using, and only have 1 connected or if you can go into your display properties check if its set to single display mode or multi.

Your very vague, if you can be a bit more descriptive it would help.

What it seems that there is, I'm trying to connect the VGA to my motherboard, while still having the other one in my GFX.
So I don't need to go buying another extension.

can you take an image of your plugs, to be sure?

It's dark in my room and my parents are sleeping, and they don't want any lights on, so I can't, but from my point of view, there is my graphics card at the bottom with 2 black ports (no racisms), then my motherboard which is above my GFX, has a blue VGA in it, I plug the TV in, and still nothing comes up in display settings.

Did you try plugging your VGA cable into your graphics card?

Oh I see whats going on, your trying to connect the tv to your intergrated graphics, when their disabled because its detecting your using your graphics card as your primary video.

There's not much you can do unless your graphics card has more than 1 vga slot, you can always try to get a splitter if that works.
Maybe if you give us some info on the graphics card I can try to figure something out, because as far as now you can only use your current monitor or the TV.

Or if your graphics card has a DVI slot you can get a DVI to VGA adapter and you should be able to use both of the monitors at the same time.

By "extension" do you mean VGA to DVI converter?

Heres a picture showing the difference between VGA and DVI:

Also, Shadow is correct. Youre trying to connect your TV to your integrated GPU which is disabled because you have a dedicated graphics card. Mind if I ask why youre trying to connect a TV to your computer? Your monitor is likely a higher resolution.

Yes
This is what I mean.

Well you can do that, I always thought DVI was better to use though, then again DVI and HDMI are nearly equal.

DVI is a Digital Signal while VGA is a brown townog Signal.

Most TVs only have VGA inputs and most computers don't have HDMI outputs.

I want to have 2 monitors for multitasking, so if im busy on some forum i can still have like for example blockland open.
