Author Topic: Have you been through any natural disasters before?  (Read 6580 times)

I have (only Hurricane Sandy which was pretty bad, and Hurricane Irene in 2011 which doesn't count because I was on vacation).
Sandy was really a disaster for much of the east coast, over 11 billion+ and counting was lost during the super-storm and people are still in the midst of cleaning up. Many people who lost their homes, family, and their everything basically are still awaiting compensation from the government, it's pathetic as hell.

Also to keep this organized, and note this is optional, if you have been through any sort of natural disaster before, list it like this:

What type of disaster was this?

Did this disaster do any damage to your belongings?

What was your full experience during any of the disasters you've been through?

What was the name of the disaster you went through?

my mom says she was in an earthquake when she was pregnant with me

I still remember how where I live got shook pretty hard and my two lamps in the living room fell over.
My parents were panicking when it happened.

several tornadoes and an earthquake

it doesn't show it on the map but we felt it, it lasted for prolly 30 seconds

Multiple hurricanes when I was little - two major ones being Wilma and Andrew.

I saw a freakin' shed fly into my yard.

Fly. Into. My yard.

It almost crashed into the side of my house too, lost power for at least two weeks, along with water supply. Things got so rough, some people killed one another. For bags of ice.

Andrew was just terrible, the severity of the storm overall was too.
Did the police do anything when people were killing each-other for food, water, and basic necessities?

Lods e policemen with expandable batons. Your usual SWAT riot team and what not.

How long did you go for without electricity? With Sandy, we had nearly 2 weeks without power. It was awful.

1. Flood of 97, it raised the rivers and flooded the streets. Waters up to the tippy top of roofs
2. Various earthquakes and tremors
3. A few tornadoes
4. A hurricane while in Florida

Nothing much really.

I wasn't even alive in 1997.
Also those are a ton of disasters you've been through, do you ever suffer from any sort of trauma because of this?

In 97 I wasn't even a year old at the time
The earthquakes I tended to be asleep for
The tornadoes I never worried about because cowering in fear wouldn't save me.
The hurricane was actually a large storm before we fled.

I just worry about the flooding however since I live near the river. NOt worried for myself because I'm way up high, I worry about the others and the fact that the store would be destroyed.

I survived an earthquake which measured 5.2 on the richter scale, my chimney didn't survive.

Well I know that when there is major flooding and you live on elevated ground; landslides and mudslides become a worry.
