Author Topic: How much will you pay for YouTube?  (Read 3748 times)

I wont pay for the service

I'd move to Vimeo

I have no problem with the ads they have now, mostly because I use Adblock.
Not to sure Adblock will work on paying to watch...

Time to pack my things and go to Vimeo.

that moment when vimeo is charging money for things that are free on youtube

Hopefully this is very limited, I don't want to pay money to view YouTube content.

since when does anyone ever actually press ads in videos anywhere anyways
That's not how adverts really make their money.
They don't expect people to see the advert and decide then and there to buy the product.

On the internet they might lead to websites where you can purchase their products, but they mainly act the same way as adverts do on the radio or on TV.

You see the advert, the product gets lodged in your memory, at a later time when you find yourself in need of a similar item you think of the advertised one, because you know of it.
Or you pass the item in a supermarket or something and choose it because you've seen it before.

Adverts are long-term investments. They don't pay out immediately. And the more often people see your advert, and the more memorable it is, the more money it makes for you in the long run.
And when there are YouTubers out there who get hundreds of thousands, or even millions of views regularly on their videos, it's just as big a pay-off as when Advertisers use big TV shows, like the Superbowl.

ITT: Nobody reading the articles.

Paying will remove the ads on certain channels so your money will go directly to these channel owners.

None of this is forced on you.

Usually I'll be able to think of something done in a commercial, but I won't remember what that commercial was actually for.
I don't think there's a single Youtube ad I can actually remember.

I always remembered the Southern Comfort commercials.

Anyways it appears as if no one has read the article.

YouTube adds never seem to have as much of an effect on me, really.
The only ones I ever remember are those that I've also seen on TV.

I don't know why Internet adverts don't seem to stick with me as much as Radio or TV.
Mind you, I suppose when I see/hear TV or Radio adverts, they're generally from local or national businesses/shops that I'm familiar with.
Whereas Internet ones are for the less familiar international or online-only businesses, so they don't get the added benefit of being something that enters my life from multiple points. (Compared to TV adverts that I might also hear on local radio, or see displayed on a shop window as I pass through town, or mentioned by friends/family).

Bear in mind that originally the OP only had the Variety.com article, and it made no mention of the "Pay to remove Adverts" scheme.
I didn't even know OP updated with other sources (although 1 has identical info to another) until Soukuw mentioned people not reading it.

new youtube dlc
720p and 1080p video qualities are taken away and resold for $15 each

you really shouldn't be running one of the largest websites on the internet if you don't even give a stuff about what your users want
