Author Topic: Would it be possible to migrate to Torque3D?  (Read 1117 times)

I never thought of this, but wouldn't it be possible to plop the code Badspot has that is in the current bBlockland engine, and port it over to Torque3D?
I mean, wouldn't this be even possible?

Code doesn't really "plop"

it's more like a grindy, metally sound. like trying to put a steel ball into a square flint hole 'cshhhhhhhk'.

then it catches fire

Here's to someone who's speaking as though they know what they're talking about when it comes to programming.

You don't.

I think you mean like just literally copy the files into there? I don't anything about game engines and stuff, I don't think it's that easy (considering what Ephi also said) but boy how I wish it was, I think we all think it was like this.

No.

It's like trying to run a disk meant for an Xbox on a PS3. The version of Torque BL uses is so old compared to Torque 3D that it's virtually unrecognisable.

I believe badspot and kompressor said this wouldn't be a good idea, and its best to stick to the original torque

Possible?
yes
Practical?
no

Torque has changed a lot over the years.
Maybe some things will work, but probably the majority of the game wont.

But for how long?

'original torque' shouldn't be taken literally here

the engine will be modified as they need it. that's another pile of work they'd have to do to port: re-applying all of the changes to TGE itself they've made. retail, v11, v21, etc. engine modifications would have to be re-made

Well, that does seem like porting stuff over is a bad idea, but I mean, I'm not really good at coding so I dunno, but the original TGE is way outdated, in my opinion atleast, I mean, we're talking 2005, its 2013.

I'm pretty sure that if Badspot gets this game to skyrocket in sales he will hire a big development team to port the game to an even better engine. In other words, possibly never.

You are amazing.
