iirc from some scientific documentary i watched

the fact that humans evolved and live on this planet and that they adapted to their environment until today has such a minuscule chance of ever happening (and i'm talking in the billionths of billionths of billionths here) that although it's still possible another species exists elsewhere, there's little to no possibility that in that species lifetime that they will ever travel far enough to come in contact with humans.
