Metal
Metal is one of the greatest genres of music to emerge within the last 50 years, and with that, it is my favourite genre of music. One of the reasons I love metal so much is because of how much variety there is. Unlike other genres, metal has tons of subgenres, from the calm vocals of power metal, to the gutteral vocals of death metal, metal has it all.
Metal Subgenres
Now, I know there are tons of subgenres of metal, and im going to try to cover them all. Just let me know if I miss anything.
Death Metal
My personal favourite subgenre of metal, Death Metal is known mainly for its loud and growled vocals.
Some Death Metal Bands:
Immolation
Kataklysm
Behemoth
Septicflesh
Carcass
Death
Gojira
Hypocrisy
Nekrogoblikon
Melodic Death Metal
"Melodic Death Metal? Isn't that just another name for Death Metal?" In short, no. I was tempted to just tack this on with Death Metal, but then I thought it would be better to just make another subsection entirely. Melodic Death Metal also includes loud/growled vocals, but also includes clean vocals and more a more harmonious guitar.
Some Melodic Death Metal Bands:
Amon Amarth
Children of Bodom
Soilwork
Scar Symmetry
Dark Tranquillity
Arch Enemy
Wintersun
Black Metal
Probably my second favourite subgenre of metal, Black Metal includes very shrieked vocals along with distorted guitars. The lyrical themes of black metal usually are usually very dark and satanic, though not always.
Some Black Metal Bands:
Lord Belial
Venom
Hypocrisy
Behemoth
Carach Angren
Darkthrone
Immortal
Satyricon
Gorgoroth
And, debatably, Dimmu Borgir
Power Metal
Unlike Death or Black Metal, Power Metal uses clean vocals and a very fast guitar. Power metal and Folk metal are usually seen together, combining the traits of Power metal with the fantasy/medieval lyrical themes of Folk metal.
Some Power Metal Bands:
Hammerfall
Elvenking
Kamelot
Nightwish
Manowar
Wintersun
Stratovarius
Metalcore/Deathcore
Metalcore and Deathcore are my two least favourite subgenres of metal, so Im just combining them into just one section because, to me, all the "core" subgenres of metal are too similar to even justify being classified as different. Being as I don't like this subgenre of metal, I don't know much about it, so yeah.
Some Core Bands:
Asking Alexandria
Chelsea Grin
All That Remains
Emmure
Motionless in White
Killswitch Engage
Those are all the subgenres that I really care to do right now. Also, if I left out any important bands for any of these subgenres, be sure to let me know so I can add them.
Also, please be respectful to people in this thread. If you don't like metal, don't post here telling everyone about it. And if you don't a certain subgenre of metal, try not to be rude to someone else who does. So yeah, discuss Metal.
