Pablo is in a pickle (xbox360)

howdy moms, I'm having a bit of trouble at the moment. My xbox of 6 or 7 years has finally pooped the bed and died :(
Now the new xbox is being announced this tuesday but from almost every rumor, there will be no backwards compatibility.
My birthday is coming up and my dad is willing to get me an xbox for it! Should I get the Xbox for all my old games? I also bought Live at the very beginning of the year so that's being wasted :( Should I wait for the brand new Xbox?

Though I was never an Xbox owner my recommendation based on experience is to just get the regular xbox because when new consoles come out they are generally REALLY over priced and usually have some issues with them and you can always try it out at the store or if a friend buys it at their house

depending on what RROD you have, you might not be able to fix the problem

there are some temporary solutions (the overheating the xbox worked for me for a bit) but they usually dont last very long
