Author Topic: If We Were to ever Update to Torque3D, what do you think would happen?  (Read 5221 times)

Why?
I'm sure we get a topic like this every so often

A sweet thing though would just be that if we did switch, Badspot wouldn't need to re-write or port over the new dynamic lighting as Torque3D has this already, all he would have to do is optimize it for older/newer computers. Another thing is that it supports PhysX or if you don't want that it also supports Bullet physics (which is what we have now I think) except I think you could interact with bricks after stuff has happened to them, we could also probably have more things exploding rather than fading away.

engine change.

Torque 3D uses the exact same scripting language as Torque Game Engine. No add-ons would need to be remade unless Badspot/kompressor would do things completely differently, which there isn't any reason to.

get out, don't derail this into ANOTHER GODFORSAKEN BRONY ARGUMENT

Unless there are certain engine-default functions or classes with TGE that aren't in Torque3D.

True, although I don't think the developers at Garage Games would remove functions on the new engine that was on the old engine because they'd want their customers (at the time T3D had to be purchased) to be able to easily port over their game into the new engine (increasing sales).  Although things COULD have been replaced, so I don't know.

The engine we run right now can barely be considered Torque, it's been modified very heavily, and Badspot has said it himself, him and Kompressor worked with garagegames for years, they would immigrate to T3D if they thought it would be worth the time to do it.

I disagree with him on many things but he is right on this

Are you positive they talked about T3D?? Just to be sure because I don't remember how long ago that comment was.

Very recent, within the last 3 months for sure, and yes I am sure.

T3D isn't much of an advantage over the engine we currently run
