Author Topic: How to make a tank?  (Read 2727 times)

I have the model for my tank and its turret, but how do I turn it into an add-on?
What mount points, how to attach the turret, etc.
I'm not too good at scripting, so I need help with that aspect as well.

Fine then, what mount point does the turret go onto? What should I name the bone?

Nevermind, I found out those by trial and error. The turret mounts to mount1.
But now I have a dungheap of problems with the model, lighting and other stuff.
Recalculate normals messed up the lighting even more, and when I shoot the turret, the player is moved to the centre of the turret from the original mount position.
EDIT: Also, the collision has a different dungheap of problems. The "wheels" do not seem to function at all, and the whole thing sinks into the ground for a few seconds, then springs back up, sinks back down and repeats.
EDIT AGAIN: What node do I give to the barrel so that the shell fires from there?

It takes a while for people to respond in this section. Maybe you should try messaging some people instead, you might get a quicker answer that way

Fine, I'll try that.
Who do you recommend? Demian?

muzzlePoint is the node for shooting. What 3D modeler are you using?

muzzlePoint is the node for shooting.
That worked, thanks.
What 3D modeler are you using?
Blender.
But the collision problem and the player being remounted after each shot are still there.
Here are the .blend files:
Hull
Turret
EDIT: CS File
The main problem now is the collision problem. I can't figure out what's wrong.

Muzzlepoint did not work...

use mount1
That worked, thanks.
Now the ONLY problem is the wheels. They do nothing. The tank won't move.

I think you made your tank way too heavy. 18000 for mass is ridiculous, even the default tank has 300 for that. Remember, this is not real life, things don't have to weigh as much as their real counterparts. I tested it with a much lower value (500) and now it works perfectly.

Hmm, fine. 2000 works too, I'll go with that.

Well, it moves now, but it slides a lot, and when it tries to turn, it goes in reverse.
Edit: Also is there a way to limit its top speed?

Nevermind, I copied the tire and engine data from the default tank, made a few changes and it works perfectly, which is to say it moves like a brick, which is fine.
Collisionbox for turret is how make?
