Author Topic: Found out I have low blood sugar!  (Read 1869 times)

Took a blood test 2 days ago for the first time in about 6 or so years.
Found out today that I have low blood sugar!
It's something called this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hypoglycemia
Anyway forget.
I don't know if this is good, or bad.

I don't know if this is good, or bad.
Having blood pressure that's too high or too low isn't a good thing.

drink some juice and get normal sugar

I just found out I have normal blood pressure!
This is so exciting! I only have a systolic rating of 110 and a diastolic rating of 68!
Yay!

I hope you guys are joking.

What would I be joking about? He found out something with his blood, I also found out something about my blood.

my mom has hypoglycemia, she gets "spells" when her blood sugar gets low and she gets really shaky and we have to give her something sugary to drink, but she hesitates for some reason.

Uhh...
Maxx is talking about Blood Sugar levels, not Blood Pressure.

Blood Sugar levels are linked with diet, for the most part.
But are also linked to diseases like Diabetes.

Hypoglycemia, having too little glucose in your blood plasma, isn't a good thing.
It means there isn't enough glucose in your blood being transported around your body.
This can mean that there isn't enough glucose for efficient respiration of your cells.

You can find yourself being drowzy, dizzy, tired or physically fatigued. You can even faint or worse.
If it gets really low (which can happen to those who don't pay attention to it), it can in causes cause people to go into Hypoglycemic Coma's.
This happens because the nerve cells in your brain don't have any sort of energy store, so when they are restricted of glucose, they can fail and shut down.

I would suggest you talk to your Doctor about it, to see what can be done.

It's best however to maintain a healthy balanced diet with a good lifestyle.
Don't completely avoid sugared items, and don't avoid things like carbohydrates.
Carbohydrates (like bread, or cereals) are really good, as they act as slow-release energy.

Just, don't take this to excess.
If you start eating too much sugared foods or whatnot, you can cause Hyperglycemia, which is just as bad. (It's having too much glucose in your blood, and it disrupts water potentials of cells, and causes dehydration and damage to the cells of the body. It most badly damages nerve cells too).

You can also risk leading into giving yourself Type 2 Diabetes.
This is generally caused by having too much fat, but you don't necesarilly have to be very fat to get it.

The answer really is to properly balance your diet and lifestyle. Eat healthily and exercise.

oh forget i was thinking of the wrong thing

don't mind me folks move along

hypoglycemia has nothing to do with diabetes besides involving bloodsugar. It's like the complete opposite of what diabetes is. It's also no where near as bad as diabetes and really isn't detrimental to your health unless you happen to injure yourself while your having a low blood sugar. Low blood sugars do suck richard though, but I would much rather just have that then actual diabetes.

it's not blood pressure lolololoz
its blood sugar
anyways what devildog said, hypoglycemia is not diabetes and diabetes is not hypoglycemia. I wouldn't exactly word it as worst or better devil, because it's hard to measure a diease. Sure something like cancer would be horrible, but it's hard to rate diseases based on how bad they are.

Hypoglycemia is a lot easier to take care of then actual diabetes. It also doesn't have any detrimental effects on your health. I mean I guess if you could just ignore having a low blood sugar and end up hurting yourself because you were doing something. But really it doesn't do any damage at all.

True.
