Author Topic: Stop complaining for .zip files!  (Read 4050 times)

I know, this is my first post (For some reason it took awhile for Badspot to authorize my account here). And while looking around the Add-Ons forum, I see a lot of people (Or a little people complaining a lot.) complaining that they can't use .rar files since they don't have WinRar.

Here's a little help on how to get WinRar, for all you arses who are too lazy to figure it out.

1. Search for "winrar" without quotes on Google, Yahoo, whatever search engine, and click the first link on the list.

2. Download the one according to your localized language

3. Install (If you are a limited user, install to a directory other than your hard drive (I did My Documents, since I'm on student account of my laptop)).

4. Download .rar files and enjoy.

You'll notice that when you open WinRar (Every time), it gives you a little box that says "Please note that WinRar is not free software. After a 40 day trial period you must either buy a license or remove it from your computer.", and four buttons that say "Buy Online","How to Buy","Close(Message Box)","Help". Just click close. I've had WinRar for over 40 days and it hasn't limited me in any way, other than annoying me with the "trial" message box.

hmmm.
the only reason people want zip. is because they don't know where to put it and they aslo have experiance with zip. not WinRAR.

It's really not that hard from Winzip. It's pretty much the same thing, except it can open a wider range of files.

Just that you navigate different. In Winzip files are listed like this:
File                           Location
stuff.cs                         StuffGame/Data
stuff.exe                       StuffGame
In Winrar it is this:

Stuffgame (Click)

stuff.exe
Data(folder) (Click)

stuff.cs

I think it's a lot easier in my opinion =/ And where to put WinRar? Just install in the default directory that is put in. If your a limited user and cannot install it due to lack of administrative privileges, just install it in your My Documents folder. Thats what I did =/

that diagram makes no sense

At least a ZIP is piss-easy to open and doesn't require you to download a whole new program.

Its piss easy to open a .rar once you get the software, plus the trial doesn't affect it at all.

But that doesn't change the fact that you still have to download it ~

Opening ZIPs is automatically possible with Windows.

...And?

Does that make the zip format superior in any way? No.

WinRar is a better archiving program in all aspects than winzip or the default windows one.

Yeah, just because nubs complain, it doesn't mean that they should get what they want.  People in the know choose RAR or 7ZIP for their archives because the formats are much superior to ZIP.  Windows doesn't come with Blockland, but you paid for and downloaded that.  You can download 7ZIP portable for free from www.portableapps.com and you don't even have to install it, just extract and run.

wana know how i extract rar files

1. move the file into BL base
2. right click it, extract files here

none of that menu and location sht. Works great!

if your that lazy, your pathetic. werent too lazy to download blockland

there are people in the world that actually don't have winrar or 7zip?
