Author Topic: let's talk about Donations  (Read 4791 times)

i believe that the only time a gameplay changing feature is okay for donation is if its single player or the gameplay doesnt revolve around other players
This is correct.

It should not give gameplay advantages.

The only server I ever even considered donating to was Pload's Prison Escape. The only reason I didn't was because it disappeared off the face of the earth before I got the chance.

In any case, I considered donating to him because his game was unique, very well done, he was offering purely cosmetic rewards for a measly two bucks, and most of all the professionalism of it all. I knew I was dealing with someone who actually deserved and could use the money wisely, and who clearly knew what they were doing.

If you can provide all of that, I think people will donate to you.
Yes i agree so much to this

This. All of my this.

You just contradicted yourself. If you want to get "VIP" you need to pay a special amount. What's the difference between that and simply just buying it?
I really hate your given arguments. Sure, it's a way to show appreciation to the host. But he doesn't need to give you special features for it that intrigue you into donating, which is mostly the bloody point of those features to begin with. Just as example if I donate to an orphanage I don't get anything. At the very least if I give a substantial donation I eventually get a name somewhere. But I don't receive the key to the orphanage or any powers in it. A title or even decorational is just fine, as long as it's not used for bragging. Special weaponry? Gameplay-affecting bonuses? Going level aheads of others? Special access to something gameplay related other users don't have? No.
Here's the thing.  Which sounds better?

Click here to donate money to keep the server going!  Donate fifteen dollars or more and receive VIP!
Click here to buy VIP for fifteen dollars!

I think people should be allowed to do whatever they want in their own server.

what does that have to do with anything, ben

I think people should be allowed to do whatever they want in their own server.
God damnit, Ben.

You were banned for saying something stupid like that before.

If you don't like it don't go there

User was banned for this post

kalph don't play that card

ephi's just gonna hound you for it and you'll just derail my forgetin topic again

What?

What the hell do you want me to do?

But what I'm saying is true?  I hate it when people call me out for abuse on my server.  It's my server, I can abuse whatever I want on it (nothing crossing the line of legality of course).

What?

What the hell do you want me to do?
Stop starting things that don't need to be started.  What I just said was nothing like what I said before.  The post I made in December was deemed dismissive when the one I just made was giving a valid opinion to the subject.

Mind your own business, Jesus Christ.

EDIT:
To clarify what I said earlier, I think people should be able to do whatever they want on their own server (e.g have donator perks that affect gameplay performance if they want it to.)

No they shouldn't. Charging people for upgrades that outclass other players is stupid and only serves as a moneymaking scheme. It also turns people off joining.

take a look at combat arms
admittedly it's a decent game with a stuffload of guns and equipment which adds to the fun
but so many of those are not only pay2win OP but pretty expensive
buying a permanent assault rifle (in NX) literally costs $25
and even worse, they offered a crate once which would award a random "Epic" permanent weapon for the NX equivalent of $100.
that's ridiculous

but one could argue that surveys could be done instead, right?
bullstuff, 90% of surveys install adware, are scams, are shady and purposely unclear, and/or don't even work at all and try to coerce you with ads.

and "donating" is no different when you get unfair benefits for it no matter how little you pay or how small the benefit is if it gives you a noticeable advantage over other players in gameplay

go ahead and give paying players unfair advantages, but realize it's really not the right thing to do.

that first post is terrible wow
that's despicable.
Did you mean that the post was horrifying?
