statutory rape is rape regardless of consent. learn the law.

It's only receiving this much attention because too many people are on the support homoloveuality bandwagon and its getting old.
I'd say that this case is receiving attention because there's a huge debate as to whether 'consensual relationships' can exist below the age of consent. A lot of people are morally opposed to this prosecution because the relationship between the two girls was clearly consensual. However, you can't make legal exceptions about things like this because that's just not how laws work.

Nobody claimed rape. But according to law, the loveual acts can be considered illegal and therefore acted upon. If you think it's unreasonable, please complain to your local congressman.

statutory rape is only related to age of consent laws. rape alone is only non-consensual, but statutory is any loveual relations with someone under the age of consent, when you're above it. as everyone else has said.

If it was a man, everybody would be flinging crap at him, but since it's a woman, and therefore lesbian, it's all good quit hatin on the playa maaaaaan #blaze #420

Stop disappointing me humanity jeez

Why does the OP say "over lesbian relationship"

Why does the OP say "over lesbian relationship"

Because it wouldn't controversial if it didn't.

I don't think you're understanding this scenario completely. There's a legal statute known as the 'age of consent' which is the age when a minor is legally allowed to consent to loveual intercourse with a legal adult. It varies from state to state but it's usually around age 16 or so. In this case, an 18 year old girl was prosecuted by her girlfriend's parents because they were having loveual intercourse even though one of the girls was below the age of consent in their state. Because of this, the 18 year old girl is being charged with statutory rape.

Or, if it was a man, people would be calling the woman a slut or a whore for sleeping with older men. There's negative gender stereotypes for both men and women when it comes to consensual/adolescent love, and the majority of these stereotypes apply to women specifically. Stop trying to play the victim here.

No controversy, Kate broke the law simple as that. Now was arrested for having love with another woman here age that might bring up some questions for concern.

If you guys want an actual valid controversy regarding statutory rape laws and homoloveual youth, the 'Romeo and Juliet' laws can only apply to straight couples. Many homoloveuals have been convicted even though they fulfill the criteria in the 'Romeo and Juliet' laws because they only apply to people in straight relationships.

Also, I'd like to add that while it's sad that an innocent girl is getting charged with those crimes, it's her responsibility as a citizen of the United States to understand statutory rape laws. You can't just make exceptions for people because laws regarding statutory rape have to be explicit and specific. Laws are drafted this way specifically to avoid creating a 'gray area' that would help criminals get away. It doesn't matter whether the defendant is 18 or 19 or 43 as long as they're a legal adult sleeping with a person under the age of consent.

They should add an age difference to the law. Something like a 2 year age gap.

It would be ridiculous to charge an 18 year old with statutory rape for sleeping with their 17 year old girlfriend/boyfriend.

After re-reading my sources, Kate's trial is supposed to take place today.

They do. The age of consent in the majority of states is 16.
