This doesn't mean you fixed it. It means you tried doing something different to it, neglected testing it, and then claimed it was fixed even though you have no idea whether or not it really is fixed.

I may be handicapped or something but after 25 mins of fighting it I cannot get it to download off the site. Could it be one of the many issues with Windows 8?

There's a fake DL button that's an advertisement for some fishy stuff, and a real one the gives you the file

btw are things like thees normally read only?

No, you were probably just clicking on ads which you thought was the download button.
