But it is all about the plane and the pilot both. The guy in the back is obviously flying the plane, but also shooting. So obviously the smaller critters have to be the gunners and the bigger one is the pilot. The pilot on the front plane is pointing forwards to signal something to someone. That someone was most likely his gunners, that he so carelessly let fall off.

I don't think so, actually. the one in the back looks like it has a more curved front end, but the one in the foreground is just... so not aerodynamic

Now, he could have also been pointing forward out of excitement as a way of saying "haha, onward I go"
Even if you are right how do you explain the second little guy in the back? Was he in the plane?  Or perhaps was he in the plane that blew up?
The close up little guy could have also came from that plane but is falling.

There are two guns. Two gunners. Also you're implying there's a plane that actually blew up. I don't see any wreckage, it could easily be a missle or something.
