"Closed species" is bullstuff and unless the creater is making money off it, and can prove that another person drawing it is causing them monetary damage, their claim has no weight in court.
Depending on what you do with it, it might fall under "you're an starfish", but copyright laws do not cover ideas and concepts, which is what a species falls under

Ever heard the phrase "imitation is the sincerest form of flattery"?
If someone is "copying" (and I use that word very lightly) her concept, it means they like it
If she just asks "credit me if you draw this species" then most people (i think) would follow that, and she'd have more recognition and a better reputation than if she just cried at everyone

I mean, if you want it to be a liked species and actually become popular, then you should let other people make characters based off of it. closing off your species frm the public is just stupid and makes it die off.

Like if I made a species and someone made a character based off of it I'd be loving honored knowing that someone actually likes my species.

Besides, I don't really think you can block off an entire species from being used.

though I mean the thing is, unless they have copyright or stuff on the species, there isn't really anything they can do about him making a character other than just be upset at him.

You can't copyright species. If you make art of that species, that's copyrightable. But a species is nothing more then "make the tail this long, and the ears that long, and put a horn there" etc. You can't copyright something intangible; copyright laws simply do not cover it because it's a ridiculous notion
 If someone doesn't understand why their character being used is good (what you said, plus point four in the DA link I posted in my second post) then all they (and the couple people who agree with them) can do is cry.

krokpot seems nice and all and i dont wanna be edgy or anything but krotpot can also forget off because there's no way you can control that and it's senseless to try and make it exclusive in the first place
