try opening it and saving with a different image editor (i personally reccommend gimp, that's always worked for me)

I used an online gif editor and saved it as a .png. It worked that way. Also, I happen to run into problems with avatars heavier than 5KBs. May be only me though.

for some reason GIMP seems to consistently solve the upload problem, even if you just open it in GIMP and export exactly the same image as exactly the same filetype.
