How is this cringe worthy?
I do not see how this is cringe worthy...
It looks very nice tbh
It's cringeworthy in the fact that it trivializes a historical event's significance by attempting to add relevance to ponies.
The photo featured is one of Conrad Schumann, an East German soldier who in 1961, defected to West Germany during the construction of the Berlin Wall. He was one of the few people that managed to defect from East to West Germany between 1961 and 1989; part of a mere 5,000. Those who failed?
Executed, like this man. Or maybe they died trying to get over the wall.
Shot by guards. The works. Those that succeeded?
Didn't matter. Kidnapped by the StaSi in some cases. Imprisoned. Etcetera.People loving died trying to escape oppression. And here we are now, 50 years later, adding
a cartoon horse to these photos. My Little Pony has no pertinence to Cold War-era history. Bronies just attempt to add relevance and attempt to rationalize their edit of the original photo by calling the ponies 'heroic' or 'brave' or whatever is le saveur du jour.
They're not brave. They're not heroes.
They're not loving real. By adding photos of the ponies to historical photos like these, a part of history is being tarnished. Because someone decided to mix a lighthearted cartoon with a serious subject such as defection.
I have no problem with bronies. But when stuff like this photo happens? Then I get pissed.
