My dogs ran away and one got hit by a car

So our dogs got out of our fenced in area in our yard and ran down the street. This happens maybe once or twice a year, nothing unusual. One of my dogs ran way down the street and cars were coming near the other dog. My mom and aunt were screaming so I ran outside and saw my dog get hit by a car and knocked into the woods. I managed to get the dog that was hit back inside, and he has no visible injuries from what I can tell besides limping, and the other one isn't injured. If the car ran him over or killed him, I would be devastated since I've had both of these dogs since I was little. :(

we gave away our dog to one of our neighbors because he was too much to take care of and they had just lost their dog
a week later they came back from dinner and he was so excited to see them he ran around and ran into the road and got hit by a car and died
