It's just the generic non-innovation that's permeating nearly everything today. Anything that is popular is copied and re-purposed to try and obtain more money and popularity. It's not only happening in just the tech field but in pharmaceuticals, engineering, and many more industries. It's always happened though I feel like it's becoming more ubiquitous to do these days. The only reason I can think of why it's happening more and more is because of the insane amount of information availability these days, though that doesn't seem like a legitimate explanation for its boom. It's kind of sad.
