Author Topic: How did Marble Man get these maps?  (Read 1791 times)

A few weeks ago, Marble was still using a calculator to position the static shapes. I don't think he's finished his mapmaker yet, and he was waiting until he had made ten maps with it to release it. Regardless of external delays, it should be a little while until they're released.
They're sweet maps, and they look easy enough that anyone can make them with the right know how, the only thing missing really is a blockland grid. I hope he does release them along with a guide on how they are made.

How come these are so frowned upon? I don't understand.
Sure I lose about 7 frames a second, but it's still particularly playable; that is if framerate is the primary issue.

wtf was that for?
How are they frown upon? They aren't a huge deal.

They are inefficient compared to bricks

Try making the same thing with bricks though.

You got a point there, but as soon as you try to create more complex and fancy things you will easily get a ton of shapes (since you dont want to create new datablocks for every convex shape you build it out of a few base shapes) and those will create lag

i was referring to how he called him an idiot for no reason lol

if it wasn't clear, they're mostly frowned upon in the modding community.
this is largely because they're inefficient. this may not be a big deal with small amounts, but when you get to having more, it gets bad
afaik there's no significant optimizations specially for staticshapes. pre-retail, blockland used static shapes for bricks. i don't know exactly where it began to get slow, but i'm p sure it was about one thousand. consider now that the brick limit is 256,000 in retail.

edit:
lol i just re-said everything zeblote said

I quoted the wrong post; how is that embarrassing?

One problem: I'm pretty sure you can't build on static shapes.

You can, actually.
