Because I want people on my server to see shadows the same way I do
like 50% of people who play blockland can't even run shadows, and even if they can, they get extremely low fps

to my knowledge making a hard line is simpler than a blurred shadow that's roughly in the shape of the object, when it comes to computing.

maybe the difference in cpu usage isn't that much per shadow, but over a huge build, it would add up.

exactly, you can just stay on medium/low and blurring it enough would make it look kinda HD
The game is horribly optimized, shaders drop hundreds of frames.

Well, it would be cool but, my computer that is a MacBook pro does not run shadows but only none or lighting only.
